Beyond the Material Plane exists a creature known as a Changeling, a creature that is everchanging, unpredictable and highly dangerous, the Changeling has the ability to change their form on a whim, usually to blend in and assimilate with it’s surroundings, for whatever purpose it deems to do so. The Changeling is a creature of pure contradiction, contrarianism, and a being of pure rebellion to existence and philosophy.

Characteristics

Changelings in their truest states appear as prisms, three-dimensional objects, in a very simplistic form, with multiple faces, sides and such that don’t deviate further, they constantly have their appearance changing, with their texture, colour and shading appearing different every time, they may appear as a ball of flesh at one time, but then appear as a glob of slime another within a split second. When mimicking creatures of the Material Plane, a changeling has slight deviations or lacks certain details that can lead to their downfall to those that are observant, due to not being able to truly see into the Material Plane.

Changelings are very angry creatures, despising all from the Material Plane, due to their own superiority complex, they believe that the Material Plane is a mockery, completely imperfect, and treats it as just an ugly and distorted falsehood of the Fourth Dimension, which they deem as a place with no flaw.

Native Environments

Changelings come from the Fourth Dimension, a plane known little to those on the Material Plane, but a plane of complete and utter beauty, where perfection exists, a flawless plane that exists outside of the Material Plane. It appears as everything to the Changeling, a place where there is no suffering or pain to Changelings, however, to those of the Material Plane, is a completely incomprehensible jumble that reveals the darkest forms of mankind and triggers an innate, primal fear and rage.

History

Changelings are creatures that dwell on everything, not having a concise history, they were there when the universe was formed, and will be there when the universe is destroyed and beyond that time. Changelings tend to develop obsessions on specific objects, hyper-fixating over the imperfections and changing it’s forms to match the perfect ideal to them. This does spark deep controversies within other Changelings, leading to millenia-long battles of objects being constantly changed, observers on the outside of these conflicts consider this as “Marriage”, however, this is far from the truth, as Changelings do not have the ability to love anything other then themselves.

Society & Culture

In the Fourth Dimension, Changelings are the lowest and most weakest form of creature, due to being able to travel into the Material Plane freely. Changing ones form is considered taboo to most Fourth Dimension creatures, however, the Changeling does not have the innate ability to care what others think of it, relying on pure whim. They are treated horribly by those higher then them in the Fourth Dimension, transferring their hate to who they believe is inferior, which usually consists of everyone in the Material Plane.
