Levels in Metanoia Engine dictate the amount of total strength, power, and overall prowess you have over your body and the universe compared to others. Your level dictates your total strength over your body and mind, and how effectively you use both to benefit yourself in any situation.

Levelling allows you to unlock three (but sometimes four and five) things:

  • Perks
  • Powers
  • Feats
  • Ability Percentage (Every 5 levels)
  • Extra Time Point Maximum (Every 10 levels)

Other then that, Levelling normally increases your health, stamina points and magic points to be able to use your abilities.

Character Progression

Character Progression is tied to the amount of experience obtained from fighting, completing major story lines, doing quests or using your abilities effectively. Table: Experience Point Requirements show how much experience you need to level up.

All characters start at level 1. There is no direct ending to levelling as it can go off forever, however, it is recommended that if the Game Master were to cap levelling, to cap it at around level 20 for ease of play when calculating everything.

When levelling up, you reset the Experience Points that you gained from the previous level and use the new total, this number does not decrease unless certain powers, events or abilities would decrease your experience points. They cannot decrease your level unless specified otherwise, in which case, you lose all the XP gained to reach that level and are at the level before.

Ontop of getting Perks, Powers and Feats every level, you gain extra health, stamina and magic based on your race, the health, stamina and magic additions are found on the races “Racial Modifiers” section.

Experience

Experience is considered the knowledge, prowess and gain you receive from performing various tasks, such as reaching a milestone event in a story, mining for a long time, or doing something once thought impossible. Experience is a great way to show the improvement of the skills of a character.

The way experience is calculated is through the Recommended Level (RL) of an encounter, action or creature.
