Crime & Bounties
Home > Rulebook > Gamemastering > Crime & Bounties
Crimes are bound to happen when adventurers get too curious or step out of line. Various law officers and enforcers exist throughout the universe on planets, and smaller groups typically exist as factions in greater space.
Due to there being to judges or systems that indicate it, and mass surveillance accessed by governments everywhere, there is no such thing as a judicial system, when arrested, the officer and the arrested head to a private area, where the arrested makes a case for the crime, the officer chooses whether to half the punishment, or just give a warning (depending on the severity of the crime). Officers are members of the community, typically chosen by those to be careful and moderate each community that they’re in, and typically have other jobs, volunteering as an officer in their spare time.
The list below indicates the appropriate response for crimes and bounties, but is not the definitive list around the universe.

Unlisted Crimes
While there are a list of crimes in the above section, that is typically not the list set in stone, if the GM dictates that the players have committed a crime, they may use the below table to dictate the punishment, or have a form of base line for said punishment.
Table: Unlisted Crimes | |||
---|---|---|---|
Severity of Crime | Examples | Punishment | Bounty |
Minor | Shoplifting, Disorderly Behaviour | 1 year probationary period | C$5 |
Moderate | Fraud, Counterfeitting | 1 year prison | C$10 |
Severe | Murder, Smuggling | 10 years prison | C$25 |

Interdimensional | Use of Time Travel, War Crimes | Life in prison | C$100 |
Reporting Crimes
For an officer to come out, crimes need to be reported in a way, shape or form. Those with a codec can report crimes to an emergency station, which records all of the evidence, subtly and mentally. It takes about 5 minutes for an officer to get ready and arrive to the scene, where they will know all of the information about a crime and be prepared to deal with the severity of said crime, typically without violence if possible.
There are alternate ways of reporting crimes, by heading to a local authority that is patrolling, finding a reporting station, or pressing an emergency button in a building.
Bribing Authority
While Officers are people of the community, they are also susceptible to bribery and such activities depending on the officer and the activity. To bribe an officer, the player must take a Confidence action, while the Officer takes a Composure action to not fall under such practices.
Table: Bribing Authority | |
---|---|
Modifiers | DC |
Strict | +100% |
Hostile towards offender | +50% |
Friendly towards offender | -50% |
Crime is Minor | -50% |
Crime is Severe | +50% |
Crime is Catastrophic | +100% |
Corrupt | -100% |
Bounty Hunting
Bounty hunters exist all throughout the universe, and are typically reliant solely on bounty hunting income to get by, they live paycheck to paycheck, and typically prioritise criminals that have bounties that aren’t too high, but aren’t too low.
The GM may choose to send bounty hunters after a player character once they’ve received a bounty.
Bounty Hunters receive double the amount of the bounty if they keep and take in the target alive.
Jail Time
If an officer catches a criminal, they must typically say why they performed the crime, officers are trained to get a confession of the crime, and are trained against manipulation tactics or means.
If a player character goes to prison, that character is unplayable until their sentence is finished, or under the GM’s discretion, they can escape, or have their party remove them from prison. The character cannot spend any money, but can be visited or freed from prison.
Paying Fines and Fees
To pay any fines or fees, a character can attend any authority and pay them the amount that they were fined, or are free to pay the authority on the spot to get out of the fine. They may also attend a station or send the money through their Codec and the Metasphere if possible.
