Madness is a frequent but nightmarish experience that occurs whilst adventuring. Various creatures – especially horrors, can evoke madness just by looking at them, or by doing a certain action, due to their incomprehensible forms, or their eldritch stance, which ruins various adventurers and creatures mental healths alike, causing various psychotic illnesses, however, in some cases, this turns into madness.
To improve your ranks of madness, one must experience one traumatising event from ranks 1-5, and beyond there, must experience two traumatising events.

Rank 1 – Thick Skinned
Benefits
Desensitized – You receive a +20% bonus to resisting fear effects.
Downsides
Addiction Prone – You receive a -20% penalty to resisting addiction.
Rank 2 – Hardened
Benefits
Desensitized – You receive a +50% bonus to resisting fear effects.
Destructive Tendencies – You deal double damage against items.
Downsides
Addiction Prone – You receive a -40% penalty to resisting addiction.
Irrationality – You receive a -20% penalty on all Intellect actions.
Rank 3 – Mild Madness
Benefits
Mild Hallucinations – You can view into the Ethereal plane, all creatures that reside there are visible to you.
Destructive Tendencies – You deal double damage against items.
Downsides
Fearful – You receive a -20% penalty to resisting fear effects
Addiction Prone – You receive a -40% penalty to resisting addiction.
Irrationality – You receive a -20% penalty on all Intellect actions.
Rank 4 – Unhinged
Benefits
Mild Hallucinations – You can view into the Ethereal plane, all creatures that reside there are visible to you.
Destructive Tendencies – You deal double damage against items.
Thousand Yard Stare – You receive a +50% to all Intimidation actions, this is unaffected by Babbling.
Downsides
Babbling – You’ll constantly blurt out strange things during the middle of a conversation, and receive a -10% to all Social actions.
Fearful – You receive a -20% penalty to resisting fear effects
Addiction Prone – You receive a -40% penalty to resisting addiction.
Irrationality – You receive a -20% penalty on all Intellect actions.
Rank 5 – Moderate Madness
