A torch is a stick with cloth at the end that has been doused in a flammable liquid, the cloth, once lit, lights everything in a 10m radius in bright light, and a further 10m is considered dim light. These have been used whenever there are no electronics anywhere to be found and have been used since the Great Evolution.
