A compass is a small, circular device that has a magnet on the inside that always points in the northernmost direction. It is able to tell the northern direction by finding the magnetic pulse of the north pole on a planet, and is fairly sensitive to many stronger magnets due to this method. It will always point to the strongest magnetic pull, even if it isn’t necessarily “north”.
