Urban environments such as cities and towns are fairly commonplace, and can be used as a way to rest between adventures, or places where the adventure takes place. It is good to balance downtime and uptime while in urban environments, as lore can be heavily taking place in such regions, and many events can happen in such dense environments can provide heavy impacts to the world and locations around it.
Urban Planning
When building a town or city there are many things to take into consideration,
Population Count
Population count affects how much work is going around and how many people have jobs, more houses means you can hold more population. Different factors can change the population of a location, based on reliable access to resources and other means.
Treasury
Treasury is typically the amount of money that a town has, if a leader takes all of the money for themselves, it is considered “Embezzlement” and is illegal, if a town has no money, it runs out of electricity, food and water within 3 days. There must be x10 the amount of money based on the population or the population will lose 10% of itself every 10 days.
Slots
Slots are used for a variety of purposes on buildings, meaning different things for each kind of building, what slots are used for is in the description of the building, but for most buildings it is typically what items or services they are selling. Slots are usually removed once that slot is bought unless said otherwise.
Town and Cities
Towns and Cities should be lively and feature various functions and zones no matter the time period, Towns may have a bit more blurred lines compared to larger cities. All towns have these components and the costs may vary based on location or time period.
Districts and Zones
Districts and zones are fairly important, used for urban planning mainly to have everything very neat and orderly for future projects to be built and people to know where they go. Zones can have different laws and permits for places when built, such as height restrictions or space restrictions for places.
When making a town or city, use districts and zones as a guideline for building a city and its landscape.
Industrial Zone
Common Buildings: Factories, Offices, Mechanics,
Industrial Zones are zones filled with factories, sweat shops and various other sort of production line buildings are allocated. Most production is conducted in Industrial Zones, and is given to merchant zones once produced.
Merchant Zone
Common Buildings: All stores and shops.
Merchant Zones are zones filled with shops, trade and various other services related, most trade is conducted in Merchant Zones.
Agricultural Zone
Common Buildings: Farms
Agricultural Zones are zones filled with vegetable, dairy and fruit farms, most food is grown or gathered from here and taken to industrial zones.
Residential Zone
Common Buildings: Houses, Homes, Doctors, Hospitals
Residential Zones are zones filled with housing in its various forms, such as apartments and other buildings. Most people live in the residential zones of a town or city.
Science Zones
Common Buildings: Universities, Observatories, Archives
Science Zones are filled with multiple education, learning and studying areas where people who are more inclined to discover and innovate tend to flock towards. People go here usually for their jobs or to gather more information in a lesser known topic.
Entertainment Zone
Common Buildings: Theatres, Inns, Stadiums, Library
Entertainment Zones are zones filled with various places for entertainment such as theatres, taverns, inns and motels. People go to entertainment zones to experience and enjoy life.
Upper District
An Upper District is a district where typically those who have a lot of money live in, they are characterised by expensive prices, higher quality goods then other districts, and the least amount of mess, with the highest amounts of safety.
Middle District
A Middle District is a district where those of average incomes tend to reside and live in, they’re usually filled with fairly priced goods of average quality, and are usually pretty safe to live in. With crime occuring occasionally.
Lower/Working District
A Lower (or Working) District is a district where the occupants living make close to, at or below the poverty line. Goods and content in this district is usually of poor or mediocre quality, and is filled with litter and trash, disgusting smells, and typically has a high crime rate.
Services
Services are important in any town or city, being places to go to for certain supplies. Should they be needed.
Services can be upgraded and bestow special benefits based on rank, either being more store slots and other things
