There are a total of 4 kinds of movement in Metanoia Engine. They are:

  • Space & Time Movement
  • Planetary Movement
  • Local Movement
  • Combat Movement

These four kinds of movement are used for various different circumstances, such as travelling through the deep dark of space, or simply walking around a town. Movement largely depends on your race, size and your Agility percentage.

Space & Time Movement

Also known as Space and Time Travel, this is the movement used specifically when travelling with a Time Machine, through different dimensions and planes of existence, or when travelling through space.

When inside galaxies, the distance between planets is measured in Gigameters, The average engine of a spaceship normally takes 3.34 seconds to travel 1 Gigameter, Table: Sol System Galaxy Travel Examples shows the distance for each planet and how long it would take to arrive compared to earth.

Table: Sol System Galaxy Travel Examples
Location Gigametres From Earth Length of Time Taken to Travel from Earth
Mercury 77 5.3 Minutes
Venus 25 1.33 Minutes
Lua (Moon) 10 33 Seconds
Mars 70 4 Minutes
Jupiter 778 43.25 Minutes
Saturn 1200 1 Hour
Uranus 2810.4 2.6 Hours
Neptune 4379.2 4.5 Hours
Pluto 4280 4 Hours
Neon City 5840 5.4 Hours

Jump Drives

Jump Drives are another form of space travel, normally quite common on most larger spaceships and fleets, Jump Drives are relatively some of the most expensive parts of the spaceship that is required, due to having to be repaired every once in a while due to the sheer amount of energy let off in a Jump Drive. Jump Drives allow for instantaneous transportation among long distances in the future, and depending on the Jump Drive, can reach the ends of the universe in roughly 30 minutes, excluding the charging time.

Jump Drives take different times to charge up depending on what kind of Jump Drive you have. But using them will cause your ship to disable your ships weapons, shields and focus only on main functions as all of the power from your ships reactor is going into the Jump Drive to be able to perform the jump.

To perform the Jump. The players must know the co-ordinates of the location they would like to jump, or become unable to Jump. Usually, this can be found in old logs, and other information around the universe. The current co-ordinates can usually always be found on the ships navigation console.

Time Travel

Travelling through time, while a relatively old thing in the Metanoia Engine universe, uses a fair amount of energy both on the people travelling through time, and normally requires training to Time Travel effectively. Time Travel is quite dangerous on the person, normally resulting in paradoxes if not careful enough. Unlike the past, however, time travel technology now has multiple safe guards to prevent the world from collapsing, and is typically impossible to break these safe guards.

Time Travelling is very arduous to the body, which takes a varied amount of time based on the technology you’re using to charge up, during this time, the player must be careful to not take any damage, as all damage is multiplied by 4 times. After the charge is done, the character is instantaneously travelled to the time specified, in the same spot where the time travel was activated.

If a player has created a paradox through interacting with their past selves in any way, or changed the course of history entirely, they immediately take 1,000 (d%) Void Damage, this damage goes through all damage resistance. If they have survived this, they are immediately transported to the present day, from the original timeline that the character is from.

Planetary Movement

Planetary Movement is the movement around the entire planet. And depending on the distance between places, can take minutes, hours, days or weeks to reach locations depending on the mode of transport using. Planetary movement typically uses Kilometres per Hour Typically, how fast you can move is equal to your Local Movement x 10, being the total speed you can move per hour.

There are various different kinds of Planetary Movement, It can range from driving a vehicle around the planet, or through more expensive means such as warping up to your ship that is in low orbit of the planet and warping to other locations.

Local Movement

Local Movement is similar to Combat movement, however, is how much you move in a town or a city. Local movement, like other movements, is assumed you aren’t under too much stress as a combat scenario, and is calculated equal to your Combat Movement x 10. Being the total speed you can explore the current local area in an hour. Local Movement typically uses Meters per hour.

Local movement rarely needs the use of vehicles, as vehicles move fairly fast and are more suited for planetary movement then local movement. However, if you were to use a vehicle in local movement, divide the speed of the vehicle by 10.

Local Movement mostly consists of Walking and Running, since vehicles are not really needed for Local Exploration.

Combat Movement

Combat Movement is the movement performed in combat. While in combat, a character can move at any time equal to their combat movement, once they have moved up to their combat movement, they have to wait for the next round to regain their Combat Movement.

Combat movement is normally used for getting into cover, moving around a battlefield or for trying to save others. If you use a vehicle in combat, divide the vehicles speed by 100.

Special Movement

There are various special kinds of movement which behave differently when using them. Each kind of movement has their own m/TP value and cost, and each provide their own benefits. Your movement can never be reduced below 1m/TP by abilities or effects unless specified otherwise. You may swap in-between movement types while using a move action, however, you must use the rest of the m/TP of the previous movement and cannot add onto that movement with other movements.

Movement

This is your standard movement speed and how you move along the land. There are no special movement abilities while using this movement.

Swim

With a swim speed, this is how fast you can propel yourself through liquids. You automatically succeed all movement actions based in water while using this movement type. Moving against the liquid’s current is considered difficult terrain, while moving with large water currents qualifies as slippery terrain.

Jump

With a Jump speed, you can launch yourself higher then other creatures, Jumps allow the user to go through various spaces and not trigger anything inbetween the square from jumping. They can move through targets automatically provided that there is still space above them to jump.

Dig

With a dig speed, you can dig and remain in the ground. Digging doesn’t leave a tunnel in the ground unless the speed specifically lists that it does. Most creatures must hold their breath while digging.

Climb

With a climb speed, you can climb automatically up and down various objects or buildings, not requiring an action to perform them. You may still dodge while climbing.

Fly

With a fly speed, you may move any direction in the air. Moving against the wind is considered difficult terrain, while moving with large wind currents qualifies as slippery terrain.

Teleport

With a teleport speed, the creature may teleport a various distance, inbetween the creature and the space of their choosing, they avoid anything in it’s way and automatically appear in the other location. Creatures with a teleport speed must be able to see their destination physically to teleport to it.
