Hey all,

Welcome to the first public dev-log (outside of Patreon) available on the website!

I will frequently post dev logs related to the website, the play-by-post and possible teasers for content in the future. I’m not too sure what to talk about here so the format may change over time. Feel free to let me know what you think of it!

Introducing our First Module - The Heist

The Heist is a 1-3 hour demo module for Metanoia Engine that has the ability to be put in pre-existing campaigns and expanded into a full-length campaign. Designed as an introductory to teach both GM’s and Players how to host and play the system respectively and covers levels 1-3.

A heist is being taken place in a Museum known as “Hudson Museum of Innovation and Greatness” on New Port Hunding. People are saying that there’s going going to be a Time Travel Device there.

Features of the Module:

  • 1-3 Hours in demo length, can easily be extended to multiple sessions via optional storylines. There are options for the module being put into a pre-existing game.
  • 3 different routes (Loud, Incognito and Stealth) for both obtaining the device and leaving that can be quickly moved between for smooth transitions of heists.
  • 6 different endings with unique variations in each that cover all outcomes of the heist. Open-ended in each to allow for play beyond the module!
  • 20 different faction police teams that pursue the players using their own methods, to keep things fresh for multiple playthroughs.
  • Character preset builds to allow people to jump in and host a game quickly, with the option of mix-and-match available, and adding your own choices to make it yours. Pre-made backstories and names featured to get you in there quicker!
  • Fully detailed open-world outpost known as New Port Hunding, with multiple, optional side storylines to enrich the main story. Explore the city and learn more about the world around you! Have a real, tangible impact on the city as your actions have consequences.
  • A condensed version of the main rules to use as quick reference.
  • Fully detailed museum with exhibits, items and other artefacts that you can explore and learn! Featuring lore of the multiverse and help deepen the understandings of both the players and GM!
  • A custom, printable and foldable pamphlet-styled map (courtesy of our artist Grimm) of the museum to keep as a display and for players to use as an actual map of the game.
  • Variant rules to add rogue-like features to the campaign for further replayability.
  • It’s entirely FREE for anyone to pick up, have a copy and play with their group or friends!
  • … and so much more!

We’ve genuinely crammed a whole lot into this module. It’s a really big one and is still being made at the time that this was written, and we want to release it for free to have everyone try out the Metanoia Engine playtest for themselves, in their own groups of friends. We want indie TTRPGs to be accessible to everyone, played by anyone, and want to show the possible future of TTRPGs.

Our Patreon subscribers can access and playtest the module early, but we are expecting to release it in early access by the end of the month. More details towards that time to the release date. We plan on releasing the module in two steps, an “early access” release containing unfinished, early concept art of the designs drawn by yours truly, and the full release, which will contain official artwork made by our lead artist Grimm.

I (Mucho) will also be hosting the game at local game shops and events, which I will announce over discord and other avenues when I have a timeframe and schedule set.

Website Redesign

I finally learnt how to code a little bit of HTML to actually make the website easier to navigate and look nicer. I’ve learnt how to insert images and gifs for people to have a gander! The following changes are below.

We now have footers on the website which contain all of our contact information and socials, so they’re not only on the front page.

A small gif showing an example of the footer being used.

You might have noticed that in the rulebook, the “Back to Main Website” button has been removed, that’s because I finally learnt how to fix the logo of the website to always lead back to the homepage.

We have a favicon now, too! It’s taken me a bit but I’ve finally added it.

Most of the website itself has been indexed by google, allowing for the search to function properly.

We’re always looking for more methods on making the website appear nicer and easier to follow. Hopefully when I gain enough coding knowledge I can build something from scratch that matches the aesthetic more.

Advertising

So, you may have seen some posters around and found this little website (if you’re around Sydney or Adelaide you may have seen them!). To all of those that have joined in our advertising efforts, welcome!

It’s been a bit of time since we’ve put some posters up and have contacted a few groups to get our name out there. We’re working on finding content creators and circles to collaborate and have people more aware of the game, just to play it and see how it is.

If you were at the Wollongong Zine Fair this weekend (Strange Folds Zine Fair on Saturday, 6th September between 10-3pm) and had one of our posters out. Please contact us, we’d love to personally say thanks to you and give you some goodies.

Play-By-Post News

The Play-By-Post has been a bit lacking recently on my end due to working on so much behind the scenes for everything to move smoothly, but it should be going up in frequency once I finish working on the module itself.

I apologise for the delays in posting! I’m working on even more things behind the scenes to make the game even easier to run and play, and am still trying to gather Game Masters to help host the play-by-posts to have even more consistent times.

Patreon Changes

A few new changes have been added to the Patreon for members of our tiers. The prices for the tiers remain unchanged. We wanted to give more benefits to others to show our scale being increased much further.

  • The Metanoia Engine Lover and higher tiers will have access to an exclusive campaign with all members of the same tier hosted by me once a month minimum and a separate category that they can use to talk with me or about the campaign. This campaign will be recorded, published, and more details regarding it will come at a later date.
  • The Metanoia Engine Fanatic and higher tiers will have digital access to all Official Lorebooks in the future that are made for the system. The Galaxy Raiders Lorebook will be available for all Patreon Members.
  • The Metanoia Engine VIP and higher tiers will have digital access to all Official Modules/campaigns/game stories in the future that are made. The Heist is a Free Module for all.
  • The Metanoia Engine Fan and higher tiers will have digital access to possible future official short stories of tales in the multiverse (once they get written and released).
  • The Metanoia Engine Supporter and higher tiers will receive a follow on all Social Medias by Metanoia Engine.
  • All Patreon Members/Donators can participate in early playtests of mechanics, builds and the rewrites of the rulebook in the future.

These changes have taken effect since September 6th, but may take until the end of the week to reflect on our Patreon.

That’s all for this Dev Log, thank you for reading! I’ll be posting more updates for everyone when I have them, but for now…

Stay tuned!
